The Local Organizing Committee chairman at the 8th Annual International Conference of the Institute of Technology, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Engineer Alagbe Michael has identified Agricultural Engineering and power as solution for the rural farming communities.
He also urged all the authors at the 8th International Conference to present their papers with the purpose of achieving results that will bridge the infrastructure gaps in Nigeria.
Alagbe, who said this in his welcome address at the International Conference, encouraged participants to take full advantage of the conference by sharing their impactful experiences and challenge conventional thinking.
Declaring the conference open, the Rector of the institution who was represented by the Deputy Rector, Administration Dr Awolola Olabisi assured that Kwara State Polytechnic shall continue to generate ideas and innovations that will bring solutions to current challenges in Nigeria.
The lead paper presenter and Head of Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering at the University of Ilorin, Professor Olubunmi Makuolu at the event said over 2.2 million Nigerians were displaced in 2024 by Boko Haram and other related illegal groups.
According to her, Nigeria’s overdependence on oil revenues has left the nation vulnerable to global price fluctuations.
She submitted that the integration of engineering and technology offers a powerful pathway to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges in national security, economic development, and infrastructure.
Makuolu mentioned that embracing innovative solutions such as drone surveillance, AI-powered security systems, renewable energy technologies, smart infrastructure, and digital transformation, Nigeria can unlock its potential and create a safer, more prosperous, and sustainable future.
