Tension briefly gripped the quiet community of Alu in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State after a man disguised in female Muslim attire (hijab) was apprehended by local youths on suspicion of foul play.
According to a statement issued by the Alu Progressive Union (APU)the suspect who was in the company of two others was spotted acting suspiciously while dressed as a woman.
The alert youths, noting the oddity in his appearance and movement, took swift action and handed the trio over to the Alu Police Station for immediate interrogation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the main suspect is a resident of Oranre, a neighboring community.
The Oba of Oranre was contacted and confirmed that he knew the individuals in question.
Based on this confirmation, the suspects were released to the custody of community leaders in Oranre and then transferred to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ife-Olukotun for further interrogation and investigation.
The APU clarified that the suspects are no longer in Alu and have been moved to the appropriate authorities for a deeper probe.
“We urge the Nigeria Police Force and all relevant authorities to act swiftly and thoroughly. The people deserve transparency and accountability,” the APU’s Public Relations Officer stated.
The Union emphasized that while community vigilance is critical, it is essential that all investigations be conducted fairly, openly, and with due process.
As security concerns continue to rise in many parts of Kogi State, especially in rural communities, the APU reiterated its call for strengthened cooperation between residents and law enforcement agencies.
