The remains of the former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London clinic, on Sunday at the age of 82, has arrived in Katsina for burial at his hometown, Daura.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the aircraft conveying Buhari’s body, accompanied by the Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, touched down at 1:50p.m. at Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport, Katsina.
On arrival at the airport, the body was received by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina, Ministers, Governors, Captains of industries, National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Presidential aides and members of Katsina State Executive Council.
Others are the former President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou, Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, Speaker, House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Service Chiefs, former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai and others.
The Federal Government declared Tuesday (today) a public holiday in honour of the late President, who passed away on Sunday.
The holiday comes as part of the ongoing seven-day national mourning period earlier announced by President Tinubu to pay tribute to Buhari’s life and legacy.
Meanwhile, thousands of well-wishers including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Emirs of Zazzau, Kazaure, Dutse and the 19th Emir of Kano, are in Daura, Katsina, awaiting arrival of the body of former President Muhammad Buhari.
The body of the former President was received by President Bola Tinubu in Katsina before it departed Katsina airport for Daura, his home town, in a motorcade accompanied by Tinubu and top government officials
The remains of Buhari is expected to be interred in Daura his home town after prayers are offered.
Other dignitaries at the residence of the late former president are, the Governor of Bauchi, Alhaji Bala Mohammed; former Governors of Kaduna, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal; former Governors of Kogi, Yahaya Bello; Borno, Alimodu Sherif; Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi; Katsina, Aminu Masari, Kebbi, Adamu Aliero.
Others include former minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, former governor of Kebbi, Adamu Aleru, former IG of Police Adamu, Amb. Babagana Kigebe.
Thousands of well-wishers gathered at the venue to bid the former president farewell, where the funeral prayer will take place in Daura.
