Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), a prominent support group for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has boldly predicted a “landslide victory” for the president.
The group’s National Chairman, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, made the declaration on Tuesday during a news conference in Lagos to launch SWAGA 2.0, the group’s new mobilization strategy.
Adeyeye, a former Minister of State for Works, dismissed the notion that northern Nigeria would not support Tinubu’s re-election as a “mere myth.”
He confidently stated that the president’s victory would be “the greatest landslide victory in the history of the republic,” even within northern states.
“We are not afraid. Nigerians should not allow those playing to the gallery to deceive them,” Adeyeye declared.
The SWAGA chairman, who also serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), praised the president’s performance, saying Tinubu has “performed even beyond our expectations.”
Adeyeye credited Tinubu’s courage, highlighting his willingness to tackle difficult issues like fuel subsidy removal and floating the exchange rate. He argued that these decisive actions, though challenging, were necessary to prevent the national economy from collapsing.
“He has confronted everything head-on,” Adeyeye said. “Tinubu is a courageous leader. He doesn’t think like a politician, but like a statesman who thinks about the next generation.”
Adeyeye challenged the narrative of a monolithic northern vote, stressing that the region has never voted as a single bloc. He pointed out the diversity of political interests within the north and cited the 1993 presidential election, where MKO Abiola defeated his opponent, Bashir Tofa, even in Tofa’s home ward in Kano.
“I laugh when people say the North will not vote for Tinubu in 2027. All the governors are united. I can assure you Tinubu will win the north with a landslide,” he said.
The SWAGA leader also listed a number of ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, as evidence of the president’s performance.
He concluded by expressing his belief that with four more years, the country will experience “exponential development and growth” under Tinubu’s leadership.
SWAGA played a pivotal role in rallying support for Tinubu in the South-West leading up to the 2023 elections.
The launch of SWAGA 2.0 signals the group’s renewed commitment to a vigorous campaign for Tinubu’s re-election when the time is right.
