The Kwara State Government has informed that it would commence soil testing and analysis services under the Nigeria Farmers’ Soil Health Scheme (NFSHS).
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Afees Abolore on Tuesday in Ilorin described the development as a major step towards advancing evidence-based and sustainable agriculture in Kwara, adding that the initiative was inaugurated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Abolore said that the soil testing and analysis was aimed at promoting efficient soil management, encouraging responsible fertilizer use, and improving crop performance.
“Nigeria Farmers’ Soil Health Scheme will help farmers in Nigeria to build resilient and productive food systems across the country,” he said.
The commissioner also noted that access to reliable soil data would empower farmers to make informed decisions on fertilizer application, crop selection, and land management for improved productivity.
He said that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had provided the facility to host and activate the laboratory, while the ministry supplied the equipment and technical support.
Abolore said that the collaboration reflected the state government’s commitment to institutional strengthening, scientific innovation, and sustainable food production.
He added that the soil testing services are now available to farmers across Kwara, marking a new phase where agricultural practices will be guided by scientific data and environmental responsibility.
The commissioner further affirmed the state government’s readiness to work with relevant partners to ensure the long-term success of the scheme.
