The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday found the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, guilty of the terrorism charge filed against him by Federal Government.
Justice James Omotosho said he convicted Kanu, for what he described as “uncontroverted evidence” that was adduced before the court by the prosecution.
Omotosho said he was satisfied that Kanu made series of broadcasts to incite violence and killings, in furtherance of his separatist agitation for Biafra.
The judge dismissed Kanu’s argument that the charges against him were invalid because they were based on repealed Terrorism Prevention Act 2013.
Earlier in the day, Justice James Omotosho had ordered the Department of State Service (DSS) operatives to move Nnamdi Kanu out of the courtroom over his unruly behaviour.
Justice James Omotosho gave the order following Kanu’s insistence that the judgment, scheduled for delivery, would not proceed.
Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stood his ground and refused to move out of the courtroom despite the pleadings by the DSS officials for the defendant to listen to the court order.
Justice Omotosho had to stand down the matter and directed the security officers to take him out of the courtroom.
