Manchester United are on the verge of securing their third signing of the summer, with Brentford’s dynamic winger Bryan Mbeumo set to undergo a medical before the team jets off to the United States for their pre-season tour on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The 25-year-old Cameroon international is poised to join United in a deal that could reach £70 million, marking Brentford’s biggest ever sale.
United’s pursuit of Mbeumo kicked off in early June with a £55 million bid, followed by a £62.5 million offer later that month, both of which Brentford turned down. However, the Bees have now accepted United’s latest proposal, an initial £65 million with up to £5 million in add ons, paving the way for the versatile forward to join Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Mbeumo, who arrived at Brentford from Troyes in 2019, lit up the Premier League last season with career best stats. His 23.53% shot conversion rate ranked him among the league’s sharpest finishers, trailing only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
He racked up impressive goals, assists, chances created, and touches in the opposition box, while also shining off the ball. Mbeumo won possession 32 times in the attacking, third best in the league, and led the Premier League with nine carries of over five meters that directly led to goals.
Former England striker Chris Sutton weighed in on the move, noting the leap Mbeumo faces. “He’s thrived at Brentford, but Manchester United is a different beast,” Sutton said. “There’s no huge pressure at Brentford, but at United, he’ll need to hit the ground running. His versatility, playing as a central striker or cutting in from the right, is a big plus, and his work rate fits Amorim’s high pressing system. But after one standout season, the question is whether he can deliver consistently.”
Sutton added that United’s attack, which has struggled for reliability with players like Alejandro Garnacho and Antony, needs a proven performer like Mbeumo. “He’s experienced, reliable, and brings Premier League quality,” Sutton said. “His energy, goals, and ability to win the ball back make him a perfect fit for Amorim’s demanding setup.”
As United aim to bolster their frontline alongside summer signings Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, Mbeumo’s arrival could be a game-changer, with his medical looming.
