The University of Ilorin says it has strengthened its hostel allocation process through a transparent, online system aimed at ensuring fairness for both new and returning students, even as it calls for more partnerships to expand accommodation on campus.
The University Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Alex Morenikeji-Akanmu, said the institution has continued to manage the growing student population effectively despite limited hostel spaces.
“Managing the influx of new students, especially allocation of hostels, is a natural thing. Our hostels are allocated online, which is the usual practice, and the process has been smooth,” he said.
He explained that while government-owned hostels currently provide less than 4,000 bed spaces, the addition of privately managed facilities has pushed the total capacity to about 10,000, serving a student population of over 45,000.
The Dean said the University is now working to attract more investors through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to ease the pressure on accommodation and improve students’ welfare.
“We are appealing to good-spirited Nigerians to partner with us to build more hostels for our students. With more facilities, life on campus will be even more comfortable,” he added.
He noted that the institution has witnessed steady improvements in its hostel and transport systems over the years, thanks to strategic planning and collaboration between management and private operators.
“Things are getting better. Traffic and hostel congestion have reduced significantly, and our campus community is running smoothly,” he assured.
The University, according to him, remains committed to fairness, transparency, and innovation in its efforts to improve student welfare and academic experience.
