First class traditional rulers and political heavyweights in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State converged on Kosubosu, headquarters of the council on Sunday, where they unanimously posited that it is the turn of Kwara North to produce next Governor of the state.
They explained that both Kwara Central and Kwara South have had a fair share of representation in the governance of the state and it is only logical that a Governor from Kwara North Senatorial District of the state should be in charge from 2027 in the interest of fairness, equity and justice.
The stakeholders spoke at the special prayer organized by the traditional council of the local government area held at the Local Government Grammar School, Kosubosu.
theheraldnews.ng reports that the prayer was aimed at seeking divine protection and guidance for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and for peace, security and prosperity of the country.
They also beseeched the Almighty God to allow the outcome of 2027 to be in favour of Kwara North, described as a district with sizeable land mass in the state.
In attendance were Emir of Okuta and Chairman, Baruten Emirate Council, Alhaji Idris Abubakar, Serobetete; Emir of Ilesha Baruba, Prof Halidu Abubakar, Derekureku; Emir of Yashikira, Alhaji Umaru Usman Sabi, Sariki; and representative of Emir of Gwanara, Alhaji Ahmed Oyoru.
Speaking on the sidelines of the prayer session, the Chairman of Baruten Local Government Area, Mallam Issa Jubril, said the prayer, at the instance of traditional council of the local government, was to seek divine face for the success of both President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq in their respective offices.
Jubril noted that the prayer was also convened to curry divine favour for a Kwara Northerner to lead the state from 2027.
“We have seen the importance of the government at large. So, we are praying to God for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. And we have also come to pray that after the tenure of Governor AbdulRazaq, Kwara North will be favoured with the position of Kwara State Governor”, he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Committee on Education in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Baba Salihu, said the aspiration of the people of Kwara North is to be seen and recognized as part and parcel of the state in all ramifications.
He urged Kwarans to rally round the Kwara North agenda in the interest of equality, fairness and justice.
The Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Abubakar Idris, Serobetete, in his remarks, said the zone would not renege in ensuring equity and justice in the governance of the state if given the opportunity in 2027.
“If we attain the position of authority we are aspiring for, there will be equity between the government system and the masses and the kind of people we are born to be, we hate cheating. So, we cannot cheat anyone,” the monarch said.
