President Donald Trump of the United States of America (USA) has boasted that the proposed $5m Gold Card visa will sell ‘like crazy’.
He said the “gold card” visa to be sold for $5m will offer wealthy buyers permanent residency in the and a path to citizenship of the United States of America.
Trump told journalists at the maiden cabinet meeting of his second term that the visas would be similar to the popular green cards, which allow immigrants of varying incomes to live and work permanently in the US. However, the gold card would sell to “high-level people”.
“The people that can pay $5m, they’re going to create jobs. It’s going to sell like crazy. It’s a bargain.”
Trump also explained that with the gold card programme, companies would be able to hire non-citizens to work for them in the US.
“We have to be able to get people in the country, and we want people that are productive people,” he added.
