The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at a special event on Sunday commended the daughter of late former governor, Admiral Mohammed Alabi Lawal, Hon. Arinola Lawal, for her sustained commitment to education.
The Governor applauded her for the scholarship awards she has provided to 500 indigent students in her Ilorin East Constituency over the years.
The Governor, who was represented by his Senior Adviser/Counsellor, Alh. Saadu Salahu, praised the lawmaker for prioritizing education, describing it as the “number one priority of this administration.”
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed delight that his administration’s significant investment in the education sector is yielding positive results, citing the national and international laurels won by state contingents from public schools.
While thanking Hon. Arinola Lawal for her interest in the education and future of young people, AbdulRazaq urged other stakeholders to emulate her gesture and embrace the government’s educational policies to secure the future of the younger generation. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to continued heavy investment in the sector.
The Governor’s representative was accompanied by a delegation that included a former non-executive director of NNPCL, Dr. Ghali Alaaya; the Special Adviser on Media, Alh. Bashir Adigun; the Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Ilorin, Alh. AbdulLateef Alakawa; and the Senior Special Assistant on Religion (Islam), Alh. Ibrahim Danmaigoro.
Hon. Arinola Lawal explained that the scholarship award was a demonstration of the benevolence she learned from her late father and her commitment to building on his noble cause. She announced that the number of beneficiaries for this year’s edition had been increased to 150.
The scholarship is implemented under the Mohammed Alabi Lawal Foundation, which she established in her late father’s memory.
“I am proud to say that this foundation has awarded scholarships to 350 students in previous editions, and with today’s award, that number will rise to 500.
“I am committed to continuing this initiative, and I hope that it will inspire others to join us in supporting the education of our young people. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of our students and in the future of our state.”
The lawmaker also commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his robust educational reforms, noting that her initiative “is in line with His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s vision for education and serves as a testament to his relentless efforts in promoting education in Kwara State, for which I commend him.”
