Saturday, June 20, 2026 was a joyous day for members of the 1972–1976 set of the Esie/Iludun Grammar School Old Students Association (EIGSOSA) as the marked their 50th graduation anniversary with a renewed commitment to support their alma mater and contribute to its development.
The golden jubilee celebration, held at Agawood Hotel, Pipeline Road, Ilorin, brought together former students from different parts of Nigeria and abroad to commemorate five decades of friendship, achievement, and service.
In his welcome address, Chairman of the EIGSOSA 72–76 Set, Dr. Sule Ayodele Popoola, expressed gratitude to God for preserving the lives of members and granting them the opportunity to witness the historic milestone.

He recalled that members of the set were admitted into Esie/Iludun Grammar School in January 1972 from various cultural and geographical backgrounds across Nigeria and were nurtured by dedicated teachers who played significant roles in shaping their future.
According to him, although the set did not have a formal graduation ceremony in 1976, members have every reason to celebrate their achievements and contributions to society over the past five decades.
Dr. Popoola paid tribute to colleagues who had passed away, describing them as valued members of the association whose memories would continue to be cherished.

He noted that the set had remained committed to the development of the school through regular contributions to the national body of the old students association, support for infrastructure projects, including the renovation of the Junior Secondary School block, and assistance to fellow alumni in times of need.
Highlighting the accomplishments of members, he stated that the set has produced ambassadors, directors in federal and state establishments, academics, judges, medical practitioners, diplomats, bankers, business leaders, media professionals, security experts, lawyers, and politicians who have made significant contributions to national development.
The chairman reaffirmed the association’s commitment to giving back to the institution despite prevailing economic challenges and urged members and stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving the school.

He also called on the National Executive Committee of the old students association to engage the school’s proprietors on strategies for boosting student enrolment and enhancing development programmes.
Dr. Popoola appealed to the Kwara State Government to include the school in future renovation and infrastructure projects, while commending Senator Lola Ashiru, various alumni sets, and other benefactors for their contributions to the growth of the institution.
Addressing security concerns, he explained that the prevailing security situation in parts of Kwara South made it unsafe to hold the celebration within the school premises, necessitating the choice of an alternative venue in Ilorin.

He thanked God for preserving their lives and appreciated members for their unwavering support and commitment to the anniversary project.
