The Kwara State House of Assembly has fixed Wednesday March 5th, 2025 for the screening of two commissioner-nominees, Dr Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe and Dr Mariam Nnafatima Imam, into the cabinet of the state government.
The fixing the screening of the nominees was sequel to the reading of the letter Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq transmitted to the House, seeking their confirmation for the plum job.
In the letter addressed to the Speaker, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu, the Governor said the resolve to pick the nominees was in line with the constitutional provision.

While Maryam Imam hails from Tsaragi Ward III in Edu Local Government Area of the state, Lawal Olohungbebe is of Ajikobi Ward of Ilorin West.
Imam is serving as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while Olohungbebe is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Development.
The speaker, shortly after reading the Governor’s letter, directed the commissioner-nominees to submit 35 copies of their curriculum vitae to the office of the Clerk to the House before the close of work on Thursday, 27th February 2025 and appear for screening next Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the House has implored Governor AbdulRazaq to direct the Ministry of Tertiary Education to urgently provide hostels and staff quarters on both satellite campuses of Kwara State University in Osi and Ilesha-Baruba, to enhance learning.
It also urged the Governor to direct the management of Kwara State University, Malete to prioritize the procurement of academic equipment for both campuses so as to ease teaching and learning process among the staff and students of the university.
The House made the call in its resolution after it adopted the report of its Committee on Tertiary Education on the lawmakers’ oversight visits to Osi and Ilesha-Baruba campuses of the state varsity.
In its resolution, the House expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for his unflinching commitment toward the overall improvement of the two KWASU satellite campuses in the state.
In a related development, the Kwara State Education Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025 has passed through first reading on the floor of the House.
The legislative framework is seeking a law to amend the Kwara State Education Trust Fund Law.
This followed a motion raised on the floor of the House by the Deputy House Leader, Hon. Abdulraheem Medina Motunrayo; and seconded by Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Rasaq.
The Clerk to the House was thereafter directed to read the bill the first time and circulate the copies t Members in preparation for Second Reading.
The bill was thereafter referred to the Committee on Business and Rules.
