The Kwara State Executive Council has approved the restructuring and creation of two new ministries to enhance efficiency, improve coordination, and align governance with the state’s growing developmental priorities.
Commissioner for Communications, Bola Olukoju informed that the decision was made at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning, presided over by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
According to her, the memorandum which led to the decision was presented by the Acting Head of Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed.
She explained that the Ministry of Livestock Development has been carved out of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in furtherance of government’s efforts to bolster food security and strengthen livestock development across Kwara’s 16 local government areas, refocusing attention on the challenges associated with large-scale livestock farming.
The new ministry will play a crucial role in supporting farmers, herders, processors, and distributors across the livestock value chain, according to the memorandum.
The council also approved a proposal to carve out the Ministry of Transportation from the Ministry of Works and Transport.
This restructuring is designed to establish a more effective and well-organized transportation management system, ensuring seamless mobility for residents and optimizing the state’s expanding infrastructure network, according to the memorandum.
The council approved for the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) to be under the Ministry of Transportation instead of the Ministry of Works.
With these adjustments, Kwara State now has 22 ministries, up from 20, marking another step in the Governor AbdulRazaq-led administration’s efforts to strengthen governance and streamline public service delivery.
