Alhaji Salihu Woru-Muhammed, the Magaji Nda of Ilorin and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Herald Newspapers, has identified patriotism, justice and loyalty as indispensable to lasting peace and security, urging Nigerians to uphold the values in the interest of national development.
Alhaji Woru-Muhammed stated this during a courtesy visit to The Herald Newspapers in Ilorin.
He said building a peaceful and secure nation requires a collective commitment from both government and citizens, stressing that every Nigerian has a role to play in promoting national unity and safeguarding the country.
According to him, patriotism goes beyond professing love for one’s country, as it requires citizens to report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the appropriate security agencies.
“The government must be patriotic to the people, and the people must also be patriotic to their country. Whenever you notice anything suspicious, report it to the appropriate security agency. That is true patriotism,” he said.
The former senior police officer also stressed the need for loyalty to the nation above personal, ethnic or sectional interests, saying national interest must always take precedence if Nigeria is to overcome its security and developmental challenges.
He warned against injustice, describing it as a major threat to peaceful coexistence and national progress.
According to him, justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done, adding that delays in the prosecution of criminal cases could erode public confidence in the justice system and undermine the fight against crime.
He urged Nigerians to uphold the values of patriotism, justice and loyalty at all times, expressing confidence that doing so would strengthen national unity, enhance security.
