The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has written to the State House of Assembly, seeking its ratification for the state government’s decision to dissolve Harmony Holdings Limited.
The Harmony Holdings is government owned with subsidiaries but ran as a private entity prior to its dissolution.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu, and read at the plenary, the Governor said the state Ministry of Finance Incorporated had been directed to take over the firm.
AbdulRazaq explained that the directive followed the recommendation of the State Executive Council (SEC) during a meeting he presided over.
It would be recalled that the State Executive Council, at the meeting held June 24th, 2025 resolved that Harmony Holdings be closed while the operations of its subsidiaries be transferred to the state Ministry of Finance Incorporated.
The speaker, after reading the letter, directed the Clerk to the House, Ahmed Olayiwola, to invite the state Commissioner for Finance, Dr Hauwa Nuru, to brief the House on the subject matter.
He said her appearance would assist the House in its decision on the Governor’s request.
Meanwhile, the House has eulogized late former Governor of the state, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo.
This was sequel to the personal explanation the House Leader, Barrister Abdulkadir Oba Magaji, raised on the floor of the House.
Magaji, who relied on order VII Rule 41 of the House Rules to present his personal explanation, described the late erstwhile Governor as a statesman.
He noted that the late Adebayo administered the state with wisdom and foresight, praying that his soul rests in peace.
Adebayo, a one-time Senator and Minister of Communications, died on the 25th day of June, 2025.
At the plenary, Magaji announced the passing of a correspondent of the House from Radio Kwara, Muhammad Adebayo Magaji, who also died on the 25th of June 2025.
The House observed a one-minute silence in honour of the two departed souls.
