The Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Sen. Sadiq Suleiman Umar, has urged his constituents to remain vigilant and security-conscious in the face of rising threats from kidnappers and other criminal elements in the region.
He said in a statement on Tuesday that while government and security agencies are fully committed to safeguarding lives and property, the collective support of citizens is crucial to overcoming these challenges.
“Our communities must be deliberate about security,” the statement read.
“External visitors should be properly verified, and suspicious actions by anyone, be it a neighbour, friend, or relative, must not be ignored. When we see something, we must say something.”
Sen. Umar, who is the Chairman of Senate Committees on Trade and Investment and Rules and Business, further called on residents to exercise discretion, avoid sharing sensitive personal information and promptly report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
He urged village elders and community leaders to work closely with youth to “discourage harmful practices and strengthen communal vigilance.”
Reaffirming that security is a shared responsibility, Senator Umar called on all citizens to “stand united, courageous, and prayerful” to restore lasting peace to Kwara North.
He concluded on a note of optimism, stating that with determination and God’s guidance, the communities will overcome the current security challenges.
