A former Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Herald Newspapers, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the corporation’s headquarters in Ilorin, where he applauded the newspaper’s professionalism and urged the sustenance of its editorial standards.
The traditional titleholder, who was received by the General Manager of Herald Newspapers, Mr Yomi Adeboye, alongside some members of the management team, said the newspaper had continued to distinguish itself through credible reporting, ethical journalism and sound editorial judgment under the present leadership.
Alhaji Woru-Muhammed, who is also the Magaji Nda of Ilorin, said he could not afford to engage in flattery at this stage of his life, stressing that his commendation was borne out of genuine conviction and careful observation of the newspaper’s performance.
According to him, The Herald has become one of the country’s most professionally managed newspapers, a development that has made him a regular reader who hardly misses any edition because of its quality, credibility and rich editorial content.
He particularly commended the leadership style of Mr Yomi Adeboye, describing him as prudent, disciplined, thorough professional with firm committed to institutional growth.
He recalled, with humour, their encounters during his days as the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, noting that he often subjected him to rigorous questioning during interviews on security matters in the course of his journalistic engagements.
The former board chairman, who is also a trained journalist, expressed delight that the same dedication, professionalism and calm disposition have continued to define Adeboye’s stewardship at The Herald Newspapers, adding that the corporation has continued to earn public confidence through responsible journalism.
While noting that the newspaper has not recorded any case of libel under Adeboye’s leadership, he urged the management and staff not to relent in their commitment to excellence, objectivity and public service, saying the newspaper must continue to uphold the values that have sustained its reputation over the years.
Responding, the General Manager described the visit as a great honour, noting that receiving a former board chairman and respected elder statesman was both encouraging and inspiring to the management and staff.
Adeboye said Alhaji Woru-Muhammed had consistently demonstrated uncommon concern for the growth of the corporation, adding that his visit and words of encouragement would further motivate the workforce to remain steadfast in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The General Manager assured that he will not relenting in mentoring and consistently encouraging younger journalists to place professionalism, integrity and public interest above financial considerations during and after his tenure.
He assured the former board chairman that the management would continue to build on The Herald’s legacy of credible journalism while pursuing greater excellence in service of the people of Kwara State and beyond.
