The new Controller, Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Kwara State Command, Mr Oyediran Famuwagun, has pleaded with the state government to relocate the Custodial Centre, Oke-Kura in Ilorin to a vast land that could adequately take care of its services.
He said the need for relocation of the facility, which should be urgently considered, was due to its overpopulation.
Famuwagun made the plea on Wednesday when he led his team on a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, at Governor’s Office, Ilorin.
He said the overpopulation of the custodial centre had resulted in a precarious situation threatening the health condition of the inmates.
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the office of SSG, Murtala Atoyebi, quoted the NCS state controller to have acknowledged the support of the state government.
He applauded the government for drilling bore holes at the Oke Kura custodial centre, saying that it has significantly relieved the service of the burden of water provision.
In his remarks, the SSG, Professor Jibril pledged the state government’s continued support to the state command of NCS and appreciated the mutual working relationship between the state government and the service.
He assured the visiting team that the government would not renege in its assistance to ease NCS operations in the state.
The SSG also promised that the government would look into the requests of the NCS controller to enhance efficient service delivery in the state.
