The Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi on Thursday announced the termination of contract for the construction of Oyo-Ogbomoso axis of the Ibadan-Ilorin dual carriageway.
The Minister explained that the Federal Government terminated the contract for construction of the 98km Oyo-Ogbomoso Road which was awarded to RCC Construction Company.
He made the disclosure in Ibadan during the Oyo Federal Roads Stakeholders Engagement with the theme: ‘Enhancing Federal Roads in Oyo State; Challenges and Sustainable Solutions’.
While acknowledging that the delivery of the road project was long overdue, the minister assured the general public that the contract would soon be re-awarded to another contractor for completion in no distant time.
The legislator representing Ogbomoso North, South and Oriire Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, expressed displeasure over the none completion of the road, saying it has impeded the economic growth and development of his constituency and Oyo state in general.
Besides, the legislator also lamented that the rate and number of road accidents along the axis had long reached an alarming level with attendant losses of lives and property.
Stakeholders from Iseyin-Oke-Ogun to Saki, also complained about the bad state of their roads adding that the Ago Are-Igboho-Kishi-Ehin Igbeti road among others are impassable.
There were complaints by stakeholders about the Oyo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which they said is already collapsing.
