About two weeks after the termination of the previous construction contract, the Federal Government has announced the approval of fresh contract for the completion of works on the Oyo-Ogbomoso highway.
theheraldnews.ng reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave approval for the completion of the dualization of the Oyo-Ogbomoso axis of the Ibadan-Ilorin dual carriageway.
The contract for the all-important road project, which will cost the nation a total sum of N147, 887,810,833,.87, has been awarded to Mssrs JRB Construction Co. Ltd.
A statement from the Presidency in Abuja noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave the approval for the completion of the project because of the importance of the entire road, especially the uncompleted Ibadan-Ilorin axis.
Besides, the statement explained, the President remains committed to easing the pains experienced by haulage trailers and other road users especially students, along the axis.
The Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi had on Thursday, February 20, 2025, announced the termination of contract for the construction of Oyo-Ogbomoso axis of the Ibadan-Ilorin dual carriageway.
The Minister had explained in Ibadan during the Oyo Federal Roads Stakeholders Engagement with the theme: ‘Enhancing Federal Roads in Oyo State; Challenges and Sustainable Solutions’ that the Federal Government terminated the contract for construction of the 98km Oyo-Ogbomoso Road which was awarded to RCC Construction Company.
Stakeholders at the event had lamented that the rate and number of road accidents along the axis had long reached an alarming level with attendant losses of lives and property.
